Healthy minds start with healthy bodies and walking to school is the right place to start. Replacing bus stops and carpools with bike stops and walk-pools, walking and biking to schools empowers students to reduce carbon emissions created from short-distance driving and idling, while encouraging exercise and positive social encounters.
In conjunction with the Chicagoland Bicycle Federation, the Academy for Global Citizenship recommends safe and supervised routes for students and chaperones to take to school each morning and home each afternoon. AGC provides bike racks and a bike-lock-library for students to borrow locks at school. The Walking School Bus is an international concept that is growing in popularity around the world and AGC is proud to be a part of this emerging community.
Biking or walking to school will help AGC achieve our mission of creating healthy kids, a healthy environment and a healthy community! So, leave your car keys at home and let's go for a walk! The Academy for Global Citizenship Walk or Bike to School campaign is funded in part by a Green Team Grant from the Chicago Public School Service Learning Initiative.

Dear AGC Families,
Welcome to the new school year! We are thrilled to welcome your children into our community and look forward to seeing you on the Walking School Bus (WBS)! We are always looking for additional parent volunteers to lead the WBS groups, so if you are available, please contact the main office so that we can sign you up.
If you do not live walking distance from one of the routes, please consider driving to one of the pick up points, meeting the group and have your child join the Walking School Bus from there. Remember, every little bit of exercise and each car off the road creates healthier minds and a healthier world.
If you have any questions, please contact AGC's Director of Sustainability, Dan Schnitzer at 773.582.1100 or by clicking here.
